Resource-sharing Platform of Polar Samples

Since the first Antarctic expedition in 1984, China has carried out a large number of polar scientific expeditions, and established a polar expedition system with one ship and three stations (the Xuelong expedition vessel and the Antarctic Great Wall Station, the Antarctic Zhongshan Station, and the Arctic Yellow River Station). A total of 22 Antarctic expeditions, two Arctic Ocean expeditions and three-year Arctic Yellow River expeditions were organized. In addition to expeditions to the station and adjacent areas, expeditions were also carried out in important areas of the Antarctic continent, including 18 Southern Ocean surveys, 3 Two Emory Ice Shelf expeditions, four Grove Mountain expeditions and five inland ice sheet expeditions. China’s previous South and Arctic expeditions have collected a large number of precious snow and ice, animals and plants, meteorites, sediments, rock and mineral fossil samples and specimens in the ice and snow world of the two poles.

The "Resource-sharing Platform of Polar Samples" (hereinafter referred to as the platform) is a distributed "warehouse" that gathers the above-mentioned polar samples and specimens. It mainly provides specimens and information for scientists who are trying to carry out relevant polar research but fail to go to the site. Improve the utilization efficiency of precious specimen resources in the polar

Data Management Beginning in 2003, in accordance with the "Chinese Polar Scientific Expedition Data Management Measures" and its implementation rules issued by the State Oceanic Administration (in November 2010, the newly issued "Chinese Polar Scientific Expedition Samples and Data Management Measures" (National Ocean Polar The Chinese Antarctic and Antarctic Data Center sends personnel to participate in the China Antarctic and Arctic expedition team, and the expedition team specially sets up the position of data coordinator for the polar scientific expedition. The post is mainly responsible for the metadata and sample registration, original data collection, sorting, and sharing services of the on-site scientific investigation. Each scientific expedition project compiles the "Data and sample collection and sharing plan", and fills in the "Antarctic and Arctic expedition samples, field observation data and sample analysis data registration form" online through the "Polar Snow Dragon Ship Scientific Data and Sample Management System". Survey data submission form" to manage and share samples and data. After the expedition voyage, the project leaders will use the "Polar Science Data Sharing Platform (www.chinare.org.cn)" and "Polar Specimen Resource Sharing Platform" to carry out data and sample information storage, release, application and sharing services. The project takes "co-construction and sharing" as the core goal, and in accordance with the provisions of the "National Specimen Resource Sharing Platform Operation Service Management Measures (Trial)", to carry out the sharing services of polar specimen resources and information, to carry out resource increment and information update, and Establish a platform monitoring and evaluation mechanism through website monitoring software and expert committees.
Data Policy The project takes "co-construction and sharing" as the core goal, and in accordance with the provisions of the "National Specimen Resource Sharing Platform Operation Service Management Measures (Trial)", to carry out the sharing services of polar specimen resources and information, to carry out resource increment and information update, and Establish a platform monitoring and evaluation mechanism through website monitoring software and expert committees. In the future, after the Polar Specimen Resource Sharing Council coordinates various resource agencies, and clarifies resource sharing policies and sharing specifications, BIRDS will also provide online application and acceptance functions for specimens or samples, and provide technical support for the physical sharing of specimens for the convenience of users Obtain physical specimens.
Data Sharing Principle Resource-sharing Platform of Polar Samples manages and publishes its resource information through the BIRDS website. The platform provides scientific research personnel at home and abroad with polar specimen resource information inquiry and online application services. At the same time, it provides specimen information release and management technical services to polar resource institutions. BIRDS website provides classified information query of the above five resource libraries. No registration is required, and users can obtain information about the specimen name, type, collection time and location, preservation status, contact person, and resource pictures of the physical resources in each library. In the future, information on the use and results of specimens will be supplemented so that users can understand the work that predecessors have done with certain types of specimens.
