Data Management | Data will be archived at the facilities provided by MET Norway, or elsewhere as specified in respective projects. According to our open data policy, all data is freely available to the public. Access to the data is provided via the YOPP data portal yopp met no, the thredds service thredds met no, the CMEMS data dissemination system and elsewhere specified in the respective projects. |
Data Policy | Archiving follows the European Commission Guidelines on Open Access to Scientific Publications and Research Data in Horizon 2020 and the DFG recommendations for safeguarding good scientific practice. PANGAEA is further aligned with the OECD Principles and Guidelines for Access to Research Data from Public Funding as well as with the FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship. The guiding principle of the data library PANGAEA is Open Access to its content for the scientific community. The content is defined as data from earth system research which can be georeferenced in time and space. Data are distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. Data might be password protected for a moratorium period; its definition is in the responsibility of the source project/institute. Format and description of data (metadata) must ensure its most widespread and easiest use. Data include a bibliographic citation. Users are urged to properly quote this citation when using data from the system. The reliable long-term access to the data is assured by using persistent identifier (DOI) which are part of each data set citation. The system is open to individual scientists, institutes or projects for data archiving and publication. Principally data can be submitted free of charge. However, financial contributions are appreciated. Costs are a matter of negotiation. |
Data Sharing Principle | The information system PANGAEA is operated as an Open Access library aimed at archiving, publishing and distributing georeferenced data from earth system research. The system guarantees long-term availability of its content through a commitment of the hosting institutions. Most of the data are freely available and can be used under the terms of the license mentioned on the data set description. A few password protected data sets are under moratorium from ongoing projects. The description of each data set is always visible and includes the principle investigator (PI) who may be asked for access. |
