IUGONET Type-A

IUGONET Type-A was released in November, 2016, as a practical web service for researchers, which was evolved from the IUGONET metadata database developed in the first term. It provides one-stop web service for researchers to search data, get the information of data, and experimentally plot data with the UDAS web. In addition, it shows how to analyze the data and can lead users to more detailed analysis of the data with SPEDAS/UDAS. We believe that IUGONET Type-A can assist researchers to create their research output, make a new discovery, extend their knowledge, and internationalize their research activity.

Data Management "IUGONET Metadata Format was created on the basis of the SPASE (Space Physics Data Search and Extract) metadata model, because SPASE matches best the upper atmosphere data and holds versatility and expandability in terms of the international standardization. The SPASE format is established by the SPASE Consortium, which is composed of representatives of the international heliophysics data community (NASA, NOAA, EDA, JAXA, and a variety of research institutions). IUGONET is also a member of the SPASE Consortium and discuss the extension and modification of the SPASE format."
Data Policy " Since the upper atmospheric data have been archived and opened to public by each observer (university or institute), it was difficult for researchers, who are not related to the observation or are in other different fields, to analyze (even find) the data. To overcome this issue, we made a database of the metadata of various observational data distributed across the IUGONET members to provide users with the basic information of the data (e.g., contact persons, access URL, data use policy, etc.) like a catalogue. In the next step, it is required to have the ability to select necessary data from huge amount of data and use them effectively (i.e., literacy). The conversion from the information providing system to more practical one promotes the use of data, the combination of different kinds of data, interdisciplinary studies, and data-driven science. It is also expected to bring citizen science, in which scientists and ordinary people tackle the same scientific issues together.
